Prerequisites
Many courses offered at the Hudson Valley School of
Massage Therapy require state licensure in Massage
Therapy or some other profession such as a Nursing
Degree. Most New York State licensed professionals
can take our continuing education courses, however
they will only be allowed to practice the
information learned as it is outlined in their own
profession's Scope of Practice.
For example, an Aesthetician can take Stone Massage,
but would only be able to use the techniques having
to do with facial massage and within their Scope of
practice. A Nail Technician, can take Reflexology,
but could only use the techniques as allowed within
their profession.
A copy of your license or national certification
information must be included on the registration
form for our school records or your registration
will be returned unprocessed. On occasion, we may
offer courses that are suitable for the general
public or a specialized area. In any case, the
prerequisites will be listed below each course.
Continuing Education
Credits
New York State does not require continuing education
but many massage therapists need credits for certain
organizations such as the National Certification
Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB),
the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) and
the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP).
All of our course offerings can be used as
continuing education hours for the AMTA and ABMP,
however only those that specifically say the
provider is a Category A provider offer Category A
Continuing Education hours for the NCBTMB.
You will receive a Certificate of Completion after
completing one of our courses. This certificate will
list your name, the instructor's name, the number of
hours and the name of the course. For our Category A
courses, the instructor's NCBTMB Category A provider
number and your NCBTMB number must also be on the
certificate.
Our courses are designed for the purposes of
Continuing Education for massage therapists. They
follow the common guidelines for continuing
education including clear learning objectives and
varied methods of presenting material such as hands
on combined with lecture, to allow for maximum
learning.
